NRI Arrested For Pirating Dookudu
In the major news regarding the Telugu Film Industry, an NRI was arrested in the US for uploading and distributing the songs of Dookudu online.The Edison police department has arrested Suresh Mandarapu, New Jersey resident on charges of procession and distribution of copyrighted content related to the movie Dookudu.
The attorney representing the producers stated that Suresh has ignored the repeated requests made by them to remove the songs that he has uploaded online and the action was taken as a last appeal. Mr. Suresh faces imprisonment of upto 5 years and a fine of upto US$500,000. It is still not clear at this time about how this issue will be handled.
No NRI has ever been ever arrested before in the USA for copyright infringement of a Telugu movie. Songs and movie videos are frequently uploaded and shared online by many people living abroad but this move has sent shock waves among the community. With the long arm of the law catching up in the US as well, the Tollywood Industry may see a reduction in piracy.
